What a mobile call actually looks like
You call and describe the symptom. The questions on that call are the same ones a technician would ask standing next to the engine: when it happens, what it sounds like, whether it happens cold or hot, and what was done to the boat last. That conversation decides what comes in the van.
On the day, the work happens at the boat. Charging faults, no-start conditions, water pumps and impellers, fuel delivery problems, gauges and wiring, battery and switch problems, trim and tilt — the majority of these are solved where the boat sits. Jobs that genuinely need the boat out of the water get identified on the same visit rather than three weeks later.
When mobile is the wrong answer
A powerhead rebuild, a lower unit that needs to come apart on a bench, structural fibreglass and anything that needs the hull dry are shop jobs, and saying so on the first visit saves everyone a second one. The point of a mobile mechanic is not to do every job at the dock. It is to find out fast which kind of job it is.

What the van carries, and why it matters
A mobile visit is only as good as what arrives with it. Meters and a clamp for charging and draw testing, spark and compression gear, fuel pressure test equipment, the common impellers and water pump kits, filters, plugs, gear lube, anodes, marine-grade wire and properly sealed terminations, and the manufacturer service information for the engines that actually live on this lake.
That inventory is the difference between a diagnosis and a repair. A technician who can find the fault but cannot fix it that day has turned one visit into two, and on a lake where the season is roughly half the year, a second visit can be a fortnight later.
It also shapes the honest limits. A powerhead, a lower unit that has to come apart on a bench, structural fibreglass and anything needing the hull dry are not van jobs and never will be. Saying that on the first visit, with the reason, is the service. Pretending otherwise just moves the disappointment later.
